On January 28, a delegation led by Liu Chenggong, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Sun Yat-sen University visited SML. The visit was attended by Chen Dake, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Dong Wenjie, Executive Deputy Director of SML; and Liu Mei, Secretary of the CPC Committee of SML.

During the visit, Secretary Liu and his delegation toured the SML exhibition hall and Ocean View. They were briefed in detail on the collaborative outcomes between SML and Sun Yat-sen University in areas such as cutting-edge international research, addressing major national strategic needs, and supporting local economic development.
Liu and his team listened to introductions from Academician Chen Dake, Secretary Liu Mei, and Executive Deputy Director Dong Wenjie regarding SML's development and progress. Both sides held in-depth discussions on key initiatives, including institutional mechanism, technology transfer, and future development strategies.
Liu Chenggong affirmed SML’s achievements in strategic planning and scientific innovation, and spoke highly of the technological breakthroughs in marine scientific research equipment such as the Zhuhai Yun and Zhuhai Qin. He noted that SML has made sound progress in its construction and development, and achieved a number of important scientific research results in a relatively short time.
He expressed the hope that SML will continue to uphold its core belief - “To be the first or the best”, further strengthen its scientific and technological innovation capabilities, and make new and greater contributions to building a strong maritime country and supporting regional economic and social development. Sun Yat-sen University will continue to support the development of SML. The two sides will enhance collaboration to provide solid support for serving national strategies and the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The visit was also attended by responsible officials from Sun Yat-sen University’s CPC Committee Office, Organization Department, and Zhuhai Campus Administrative Committee, as well as members of the SML leadership team.
