2020年，新冠疫情在全球蔓延，但科学并没有因此停下脚步。在过去的这一年，有很多新物种被描述，仅英国自然史博物馆的科学家们就描述了503种新物种，这其中有不少是海洋生物新物种。新物种的发现增加了生物多样性，也使我们能更有效地进行生物多样性保护工作。下面就让我们看看2020年增添了哪些新的海洋生物物种。

Corallina chamberlainiae

英国自然史博物馆（Nature History Museum）研究人员在2020年描述了三种红藻，十种纤毛虫，四种硅藻和一种地衣。其中有一种红藻非常美丽精致，被命名为Corallina chamberlainiae。它被发现于南大西洋最偏远的一些岛屿附近（包括福克兰群岛和特里斯坦-达库尼亚群岛），揭示了这些地方虽然距离很远，但之间仍存在联系。

Duobrachium sparksae

美国国家海洋和大气管理局（NOAA）渔业研究团队在2015年的一次深潜中，利用水下机器人在波多黎各海域海底3900米处拍摄到了一种生物，虽然未能采集到该生物样品，但通过对高清影像的研究，这个新物种在2020年被正式命名为Duobrachium sparksae，属于栉水母门。栉水母身体透明，呈球形，目前约有100-150种，为肉食动物。

Eurythenes Plasticus

英国纽卡斯尔大学（Newcastle University）研究人员于2014年在马里亚纳海沟水下6000米左右的地方，发现了一种新的端足类动物，长约2-3厘米，形状像虾，有甲壳。令人震惊的是研究人员在其体内发现了0.65mm长的微塑料，与聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯（PET）有80%的相似度，因此将其命名为Eurythenes Plasticus-“塑料”。由此可见，人类污染地球的速度已经超过了物种发现的速度，该发现也给人类敲响了警钟。

Discovery in China

中国科学家们在2020年也有不少新发现。例如，中科院海洋研究所的研究人员对采集自西太平洋4座海山的紫柳珊瑚进行研究，发现描述了3个新物种，分别是Victorgorgia fasciculata（簇生紫柳珊瑚）, V. iocasica（海洋所紫柳珊瑚）和V. flabellata（扇形紫柳珊瑚）。中山大学的科学家们对采集自西沙群岛的多种海生昆虫样本进行研究，发现描述了一个海泽甲新物种，并以南海岛礁名称“石屿礁”将该新物种命名为Hyphalus shiyuensis（石屿海泽甲）。
